Proper management of hazardous chemicals is often overlooked by team members using a hazardous chemical, with management assuming proper communication of hazards is occurring. Chemical hazards are usually practically grouped into two understandable categories:

  • Hazardous chemicals that have been used for years with the hazards sometimes taken for granted because of the common use without any accidents.
  • New hazardous chemicals often used to replace or add to a process where the unfamiliarity and disclosures on a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) throws up a red flag to team members.

Team members handling a hazardous chemical daily know some of the hazards related to their specific use while others peripherally engaged may lack knowledge. Is the hazardous chemical handled correctly at the loading dock, transit from the loading dock to the storage or end use? Storage includes all aspects once the hazardous chemical once it is unloaded to its final use.

This webinar will address management of hazardous chemicals, which agency regulates the chemical and practical facility management strategies. Additionally, Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS) regulations as well as industry standards and good engineering practice based on my experience in industry will be discussed.

This webinar will be the first in a series that will include other hazardous chemical handling requirements such as Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements, the Clean Air Act General Duty Clause as it relates to hazardous chemical storage, and hazard analysis.
