Project Manager (Closure) – Ohio

Responsible for all aspects of project management related to investigating the nature and extent of contamination and/or developing and implementing cleanup and closure activities in an economical, timely, and technically sound manner. In addition, project managers are expected to maintain a client base and understand the client’s needs related to projects.  This position reports directly to the Closure Manager or Principal and must be able to manage internal and external project resources.

The service area includes federal (CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, etc.) and state-specific regulatory programs (State Cleanup, LUST, VRP, VAP, BUSTR, etc.).

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with established health and safety guidelines.

  • Understand client’s business needs, project expectations, and environmental risk tolerance.
  • Manage sufficient work to achieve labor billed goals.
  • Develop and maintain a client base by developing working relationships with clients. Identify work opportunities with existing and potential clients and make efforts to secure the work through networking and the referral process.
  • Understand and implement technical tasks, regulatory framework, and strategic activities necessary to complete a project’s scope of work and guide projects to closure. Activities include, but are not limited to:
    • Multimedia (soil, water, vapor, sediment, etc.) investigations and data assessment
    • Remediation and mitigation evaluations and implementation
    • Understand regulatory framework and guidance documents
    • Coordinate with company resources in developing strategies to ensure compliance.
  • Effectively communicate (internal and external) the project needs and expectations including but not limited to goals, schedule, and cost/budgets.
  • Effectively delegate (internal) project needs and expectations to appropriate company resources (i.e., Administrative, Construction Services, Technical Services, Corporate).
  • Effectively work with company resources to make informed decisions while incorporating the client’s business needs, project expectations, regulatory framework, and technical feasibility.
  • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and make informed decisions on technical information/data provided by internal resources (e.g., Construction Services, Technical Services) and/or external resources.
  • Mentor personnel.
  • Prepare job descriptions of successfully completed projects and update August Mack resume for Marketing purposes.
  • Provide technical assistance to the Marketing Department to increase August Mack’s client base.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:        
Requires 2.5+ years of experience in environmental consulting and a bachelor’s degree in civil/environmental/chemical engineering, geology, chemistry, environmental science, or a related field. Knowledge of environmental regulations and methodologies and strong verbal/written communication skills are a must. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Additional Requirements:

This classification requires the use of a personal or company vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver’s license, and have an acceptable driving record. 

Required Abilities: 

  • Work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work in small, cramped areas.
  • Travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces to access equipment.
  • Climb ladders or steps where equipment is located, to reach objects on shelves, or to monitor machinery and equipment.
  • Move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) short distances (20 feet or less).
  • Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to adjust equipment.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Work closely and manage others in a team environment.
  • Maintain a working relationship with clients.
