Staff Consultant (Litigation Support)

Responsible for supporting projects related to law firms, expert analysis, testimony, and written reports on environmental matters in legal cases. Assist in the support of the administrative project management of opportunities and projects. Responsible for assisting in reporting scientific and technical information in a manner that can contribute to the successful resolution of complex legal disputes related to environmental issues. Responsible for research and assisting in preparing technical reports to support general environmental projects for law firms and environmental litigation related projects.  Work is performed with direction from experienced technical managers, under the general supervision of a Director, Principal or Senior Manager.

Will assist in projects at the nexus of law and environmental science. Collaborating closely with experienced technical managers and under the guidance of senior leadership, will assist in projects supporting law firms by crafting written reports, providing expert analysis, and aiding in the resolution of complex legal disputes involving environmental matters. Responsibilities will include project management, researching scientific data, and preparing technical reports essential for litigation support.

  1. Conduct research and analysis of environmental issues related to ongoing legal cases.
  2. Assist in evaluating scientific data, environmental reports, and expert testimonies to support well-founded opinions and conclusions.
  3. Train on environmental laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  4. Assist in working with legal teams to develop written arguments and strategies for environmental cases.
  5. Assist in the review, analysis, and effective responses to reports and testimonies provided by opposing expert witnesses to identify weaknesses and inconsistencies in their arguments.
  6. Assist with assessing and clearing conflicts of interest as necessary to provide expert services and/or litigation support.
  7. Effectively work with company resources (and external resources/contractors) to make informed decisions while incorporating client’s business needs, project expectations, regulatory framework, and technical feasibility.
  8. Execute specific work activities to maintain project momentum.
  9. Maintain administrative files including but not limited to Professional Services Agreements, billing files, closed job files, vendor files, potential vendor files, etc.

Education: B.S. or B.A. in history, English, law, geology, engineering, chemistry, environmental science, or a science-based field

Experience: 1.5+ years of experience in environmental consulting or legal field

Skills: Strong verbal/written communication skills
