PFAS - Sticking Around for a While

Date and Time:
2/6/2019 at 3:00 PM, Duration: 45 Minutes

Description:

PFAS or Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, have been around since the 1940’s and are used in a wide-range of commercial and consumer products from treatments of paper and fabrics, to industrial applications, and use in fire-fighting foams. There are a number of high-profile cases of groundwater contamination from PFAS. These cases are largely associated with manufacturing of PFAS and precursor compounds, and fire-fighting training areas. Toxicological studies have shown that elevated exposure to PFAS can potentially result in liver, endocrine, immunological, and reproductive effects, as well as cancer. In the last three years, 10 states have issued guidance and/or screening levels for PFAS in groundwater and/or soils. As a result of the unique properties of these compounds, sampling and analysis can be highly specialized, and interpretation of the results even more specialized. Please join August Mack for a webinar describing the current state of the science, and sampling and remediation approaches for this important emerging contaminant.
