August Mack Environmental, Inc. was founded in 1988 by Geoffrey A. Glanders and Bryan K. Petriko. At the time of the company’s founding, the owners had an entrepreneurial spirit and knew they wanted to create a different kind of environmental consulting firm. They were young, optimistic consultants with “big ideas” on how to change the face of consulting and were supported by a group of individuals that provided an enormous amount of hard work, moral support, and guidance to help them achieve this goal. They desired to combine the abilities of geologists with the talents of engineers to develop a full-service organization that could provide superior, cost-effective, client-focused solutions to environmental problems. Given their background in geology and engineering, they were able to take the initiative to change the philosophy of consulting by providing turnkey investigation, design, and construction services for remediation projects customized to the client’s needs. This approach allowed the company to experience impressive growth and develop long-term client relationships that have lasted for more than 25 years. In fact, 25 percent of the clients obtained in the company’s first year of operation are still clients today - that’s true brand loyalty.

Another goal Glanders and Petriko had when they started the company was to develop an employee-focused culture that would promote growth from within the organization. In order to continue the growth the company experienced from providing clients with a new approach to handling their environmental problems, the company decided to expand its geographic reach and service area offerings. In mid-1992, the company opened its first satellite office by relocating one of its Indianapolis employees to Ohio, to better meet the needs of clients.

In addition to expanding geographically for employee development, August Mack continually focused on expanding its service areas to ensure the company did not become solely dependent on one particular aspect of environmental consulting. In the 1980s, the company’s primary service area was Underground Storage Tank (UST) management and soil & groundwater remediation. In the mid-1990s, the company expanded its regulatory compliance department to become more focused on permitting and reporting due to the implementation of the Clean Air Act Amendments and the direct needs of our industrial client base. This growth allowed August Mack to relocate existing staff to Baltimore to open a new office in order to better service an existing client. (The Baltimore office later relocated to Lancaster, Pennsylvania.) In 1999, August Mack developed eCAP®, a comprehensive environmental, health and safety (EH&S) program that allowed the company to team with clients by taking full responsibility for their EH&S compliance program.

In 2000, expansion continued with the launch of a new office in Lansing, Michigan. In 2013, August Mack commemorated its 25th Anniversary and nearly doubled the size of its workforce. This year also marked an expansion of the Ohio office with a move from Dublin to a larger facility located in Lewis Center, Ohio.  With this relocation, the company extended its drilling services into the Ohio market and eventually opened an additional drilling office near Huntsville, Alabama in 2014 to support this growing service area.  Expansion in the Ohio market continued in 2014 and 2015 with additional resources dedicated to serve the due diligence and property transaction needs of clients in the Cleveland, Ohio area.
