Transaction Specialist (Transaction)

A Transaction Specialist is responsible for learning and performing various aspects of field work related to environmental due diligence consisting of site assessment activities and field inspections and investigation to identify and evaluate environmental risks on a property. Work is performed with direction from experienced level technical personnel; under the general supervision of an Office Manager or Principal.

The environmental due diligence services include:

  1. Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), Desktop Reviews, and other environmental due diligence related reporting
  2. Regulatory File Reviews,  Peer Review, and historical research
  3. Brownfield Redevelopment research and reporting
  4. Phase II Subsurface Investigations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform all field tasks necessary to complete a project’s scope of work.
  • Prepare technical reports and/or sections of reports documenting the work completed including site descriptions, field descriptions, field observations, work task descriptions, boring logs, sampling logs and forms, well construction and abandonment logs, data tables, chain of custody documentation, trip reports and any other reporting or documentation needed by the project or requested by the manager.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and perform site inspections for environmental due diligence assessments. Utilize technology to upload site inspection photos and notes from the field.
  • Advance soil borings, obtain and field screen soil samples; install, develop and sample groundwater monitoring wells; complete geologic and aquifer studies; prepare samples for the laboratory; perform vapor studies, excavation area assessments, and record searches.
  • Recognize and identify environmental concerns at a parcel of real estate; perform file review and record searches; prepare reports documenting environmental concerns; and formulate recommendations for corrective action.
  • Identify potential sources of contamination when working on a job site.
  • Document field activities including field techniques, locations of the work, and any relevant field observations. Write the field portion of the environmental report.
  • Perform regulatory and technical research as needed to support a project.
  • Evaluate, select, schedule, and manage subcontractors.
  • Prepare Health and Safety Plans (HASPs), review and enforce the plan at the work site.

 

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in geology, environmental science, engineering or a related science field. Strong technical written communication skills are a must. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. OSHA Hazwoper Certification (40 hours) is a plus.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
This classification requires the use of a company or personal vehicle on company business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license, have an acceptable driving record and receive a medical clearance from a baseline physical.

This classification requires travel to various project locations. Travel typically involves day trips within the state or neighboring states, resulting in longer work days; and may include extended and/or further travel, resulting in multiple days and overnights. Long-term assignments may be required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:

  • The principals, practices, & techniques of geology, engineering and/or chemistry.

 

Skilled in:

  • Technical writing
  • Calibrating and using various types of field equipment.
  • Performing mathematical calculations.
  • Interpreting geologic and hydrogeologic information and scientific data.

 

Ability to:

  • Learn job-related material primarily through verbal instruction, training, reading, researching and observation in an on-the-job setting.
  • Document and organize while working on multiple projects.
  • Accurately measure and document dimensions and distances
  • Work out doors in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work in small, cramped areas.
  • Travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces to access equipment.
  • Climb ladders or steps where equipment is located, to reach objects on shelves, or to monitor machinery and equipment.
  • Move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) short distances (20 feet or less).
  • Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time to make adjustments to equipment.
  • Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
  • Work closely and support others in a team environment.
